Happy Birthday to the Chatterbox of today’s world. A necessary evil none of us can live without. Instant Messaging and Voice Over IP Service – Whatsapp is 15 years old today – 24 February.
Created by two Software Engineers Brian Acton (USA) and Jan Koum (Earlier Ukraine, then US), both working with Yahoo launched the first version of Whatsapp on 24 February 2009. The initial Headquarters was at Mountain View in California, USA. The name used was the casual American greeting of What’s Up? becoming Whatsapp. The initial idea was about connecting people through a messenger and chat with notifying status change. Various other aspects like multimedia, group messaging were added over time until Facebook (now Meta) purchased Whatsapp in 2014.

The traditional SMS and telecommunication took a big hit due to the developments with Whatsapp. A business friendly version called Whatsapp Business created a platform for businesses to showcase their products as well as even sell them. Whatsapp Personal and Whatsapp Business today also use video and audio calling and group calling along with money transfer and desktop and laptop integration for connectivity and promotion. These are some of the positive aspects of this service. While conversely, too much information or rather digital trash through constant chatter and notifications of utter useless forwards and fake news and information and majority of us believing it to be authentic, have led to the derogatory term – someone being a product of Whatsapp University or someone being a Pass out of Whatsapp University – Which means he/she is telling a lie based on whatsapp forwards. This medium is also being effectively used to control and manipulate the world of today based on fragile ideologies and volatilities.
The sad but true reality of this wonderful medium today.
I have been using Whatsapp since 2013 and it has been a prime driver in promoting and communicating my unique concert concepts all over through the effective use of multimedia. I owe my triumph to Whatsapp.
