Happy Birthday to a Living Legend - Singer Kattassery Joseph
Yesudas (K J Yesudas) who is 84 today - 10 Jan. (Also known as Dasettan and
Ganagandharvan).
The Legend represents the phase of Hindi Film Music between the two golden periods (First 1950 - 1975 and Second 1987 - 1999) - keeping the Indianness and melody of Film Music alive - All thanks to a handful of Composers along with Singers like him who really kept on fighting the majority of the music that was losing out on real melody and quality all due to the kind of so called commercially content oriented films being churned out in that era. India's brain drain in the 1960s and 70s left a depreciated level about everything including film stories and creativity.
Kattassery Joseph Yesudas (b. 10 January 1940)
Awarded Padma Vibhushan (India's 2 Highest Civilian Award), 3 Honorary Doctorates and a record 8 times National
Award Winner for Best Male Playback Singing.
